Runners win second straight and series over Drillers

The RoadRunners got on track this past weekend winning the 3 game series VS the Louisiana Drillers two games to one on the road in Lafayette.  In game one bus legs became a factor for the Runners as they just plain ran out of gas in the third period surrendering 4 goals to the Drillers.  But the resilient RoadRunners bounced back on Sunday and Monday to stun the Drillers home crowd and take the series on the road 4-3 and 2-1 in a shootout.  “We were short this weekend with injuries as well as guy’s that couldn’t make the trip due to College classes on Monday but the guy’s battled hard and showed grit and the ability to execute a game plan.” stated Runners coach Mike Beavis.

TX Roadrunners 3 @ Louisiana 7 – Blake Siewertsen posted a hat-trick and Grady Reis made 19 saves to fuel the Drillers’ 7-3 win over the Roadrunners on Saturday. Shamil Khadizhalov, Grant Griffin, River Spedowski and Viacheslav Nilov rounded out Louisiana’s offense, while Seth Payson, Garrett Wilderman and Logan Bellar lit the lamp for Texas. Blake Forystek made 41 saves in the loss.

TX Roadrunners 4 @ Louisiana 3 – The Roadrunners raced to a 2-0 advantage early in this one, which proved to be the difference in a tightly-contested matchup that they took over the Drillers 4-3. Four different Roadrunners hit the scoresheet, as Blake Elliott, Mason Evans, Garrett Wilderman and Seth Payson provided the Texas offense. Blake Siewertsen carried the Drillers with two goals, joining Brandon Morgan in the Louisiana scoring, but fell just short. Jaeger Reed starred as well for Texas with a whopping 51 saves, outdueling Grady Reis’ mark of 24 stops in the Drillers’ cage.

RoadRunners goalie Cole Garver made 47 saves in a 2-1 shootout win on Monday night.
TX RoadRunners 2 @ Louisiana 1 (SO) – RoadRunners goaltender Cole Garver made 47 saves through regulation and overtime the stopped four of six shooters in the shootout to give the RoadRunners a 2-1 shootout win over the Drillers on Monday night. The win was the second in a row for Texas.

After the game went scoreless through the first two periods, the RoadRunners were the first to score as Tadeas Vicha scored his fifth goal of the season with an assist to Logan Bellar.

The Drillers managed to tie the game and breakthrough for their only goal with just over five minutes remaining as Grant Griffin scored on the power play with assists to Ben Cope and Blake Siewertsen.

In the shootout, Blake Elliot netted the game-winner and gave the RoadRunners back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

Drillers goalie Gunnar Snyder made 21 saves in the loss.

The Runners have now improved their record to 4-11-2 and have surpassed the past two seasons win record and are showing that they are on the upswing in the NA3HL.  On a side note:  Runners head Coach Mike Beavis reached what he refers to as a small milestone Monday evening obtaining his 250th win as a head coach since entering the junior ranks.  “It’s great to get that out of the way as it has been kind of a monkey on my back over the past few months.  The guy’s were great and all acknowledged it after the game which lead to an emotional few moments for me.  Now it’s time to get on with the task at hand and move forward with this team.” stated Beavis

The Runners will get a weekend to recover this week and prepare to hit the road to Atlanta for a three game set VS the Caps November 8th-9th &-10th.  The Capitals lead the season series 2-1 and the Runners are looking to even things up on the road in two weeks.
