Runners set for final weekend of the season

Mar 6, 2020

On the final weekend of the regular season for the NA3HL the Texas RoadRunners season will come to an end this Sunday evening but they have some great events in store in the last three home games.

The Runners have gotten a great start on rebuilding a program that was struggling over the past three seasons and feel that the future is very bright for them in the Southern division.  “I am happy with the way things have gone this year, we would have loved to have made it to the post season but we came up short in quite a few games and it just was not meant to be.” states Runners Head Coach Mike Beavis.  Beavis and his staff have turned things around in the past eight plus months in Bryan-College Station not only with the team but with the community as well.  “The community has been very receptive to us this season and our fan base is continuing to grow as well as our billet situation here in Bryan-College Station. States Runners Coach Ryan Scheide”   Scheide has played a huge part in both of those areas  as he has coordinated several events associated with youth hockey, community involvement and other events associated with “The Spirit Ice Arena”.

The RoadRunners staff will be back with the team next season as Coach Beavis has agreed to terms with team owner Don Stone that will keep him with the program for the next five years.  Coach Scheide also is scheduled to return to the team in his role for 2020-2021 and will finish this year helping out in Odessa with the NAHL  Jackalopes  through the end of their season.  ” I am very happy that Don Stone has asked me to return and spend the last part of my coaching career here in Texas and as for Ryan, he has done a great job this season in his first year behind the bench and will be rewarded with some time up with the Jacks to get a bit more experience with their staff.” added Beavis

This weekend will feature some special events as tonight’s game will be First Responder night as well as a special introduction of the U-12 and U-14 Youth RoadRunners teams that clinched their respective Championships.   A special ceremonial puck drop will take place before the start of tonight’s game between the Runners and the Louisiana Drillers.  During the first intermission both the youth teams will be introduced on ice in a congratulating ceremony.

The Runners will also hold Billet appreciation night on Saturday.  The team and players will honor the billet families that have supported us this season and will hold a brief introduction of each family attending Saturdays game VS the same Louisiana Drillers.

In the final game of the year this Sunday VS the Mid-Cities Stars the Runners will introduce their age out players that will be moving on after this season.  This will be the final game for several RoadRunners.  Please join us in showing appreciation for them being a part of our program before the start of Sunday’s game.

Friday and Saturday game time is 6:15 PM and Sunday’s puck drop is set for 5:30 PM  Please stop by the “Spirit Ice Arena” to help us with these three big final nights of the 2019-2020 season or tune into hockeytv.com to catch all the action live.
