Friday Final:

Texas R 2 @ Atlanta 6 – An early goal from Ben Reimer would put the Capitals up and they never looked back. Delton Hoffman would then score two goals in the second, having primary assists from Landon Thiessen on each. This would force the Road Runners to yank Jimmy Packee after 20 minutes. Reimer would add another in the second before Texas would get on the board from a goal by Kyle Mackintosh. Gibby Medina would regain the four-goal lead for the Capitals, scoring late in the second. Reimer would complete the hat trick in the third with a powerplay goal. Carson Spear would add a late tally, but Texas would ultimately fall short. Hunter Houle would have 20 saves in relief, while Jackson Black would make 30 saves in the win.

Texas R 8 @ Atlanta 1 – Carson Spear’s hat trick helped the Texas Roadrunners easily defeat the Atlanta Capitals. Texas’ Noble Cook got his first three assists of the season, while Spear, Lucas Dyer, and Skylar Bawcom all had multi-point nights. Atlanta’s Jackson Black made 41 saves in relief, but the RoadRunners’ 64 shots were too much for the Capitals to handle. Riley Erickson got the lone goals for the Capitals.

Sunday Final:

Texas R 9 @ Atlanta 0 – The Texas Roadrunners had a dominant road performance, winning two of three against the Atlanta Capitals this weekend. In Sunday’s match up, Carson Spear opened the scoring for the Roadrunners just under four minutes into the first. Spear added one more goal and three assists during the game, earning him a total of 11 points in three games. With 20 seconds left in the 1st, Skylar Bawcom of the Roadrunners scored his first of three goals. He also racked up two assists. Kyle Mackintosh launched a scoring frenzy halfway through the second period. His second goal of the night came only four minutes later, with goals from Zachary Barlow and Bawcom in between, prompting a goalie change for the Capitals. Bawcom’s power play goal early in the third earned him a hat trick. Spear’s power play goal and Noble Cook’s short-handed goal sealed the fate of the Capitals. Cook also had an impressive five assists on the night. The Roadrunners goaltender, Hunter Houle, made 29 saves and had his first shutout of the season.

The Roadrunners were without Head Coach / GM Mike Beavis last weekend as he was given the weekend off to celebrate his 25th wedding anniversary with his wife Jeannie and their family.  Owner Don Stone jumped behind the bench to help out assistant coach Sam Romutis over the weekend.

The Roadrunners got off to a slow start on Friday evening and quickly found themselves in a bit of a hole that they could not get out of in game one of the three game set.  “After game one I spoke with Coach Beavis about the game and how we went about getting back on track.  We made adjustments and got back to systematics as well as team play vs.  Individual efforts and it started to click.”  Stated Coach Sam Romutis.  Beavis also spoke with Captain Carson Spear about leading by example and setting the tone for the rest of the weekend and it seemed to sink in as Spear was voted 1st Star of the week for the South Division.

“Carson and I spoke after game one in Atlanta and he knew he had to get the guys on track by setting the tone over the rest of the weekend,” stated Head Coach Mike Beavis. “ He did just that and powered his team to two big wins.”
