RoadRunners Stave off Sweep

The RoadRunners hosted the first place Texas Brahmas this past weekend at the “Spirit Ice Arena” in Bryan / College Station and although without four key players managed to pull out a win on Sunday.  “It was a tough weekend for sure, we were a bit banged up and had a couple guys up with Odessa (NAHL) but no excuses.” states Coach Mike Beavis

Friday Final:

TX Brahmas 3 @ TX RoadRunners 1 – In a battle of South powerhouses, the Texas Brahmas won 3-1 against the Texas RoadRunners. Netminder Dolan Gilbert stopped 26 of 27, while forward Erik Vrkoc scored two goals and an assist. Aleksandr Gamzatov had the other goal for the Brahmas, while Tyler Love had the lone goal for the RoadRunners. Nash Wilson made 38 saves in the loss.

Saturday Final:

TX Brahmas 6 @ TX RoadRunners 2: The Texas Brahmas won game two over the Texas RoadRunners in a 6-2 final. The Brahmas scored first with Ethan Kochanny assisted by Luc Yorkison for a 1-0 lead. The RoadRunners answered back to even the game 1-1 with Eitan Geralnik. The Brahmas took the lead back with Erik Vrkoc scoring his 25th of the year, and then the RoadRunners tied it up nearing the end of the opening frame with Jaron Ketterman for a 2-2 score. In the middle frame, Michael Imala scored, getting the Brahmas ahead 3-2. In the third period it was all Brahmas as Aleksanr Gamzatov, Mical Imala and Gion Coray all scored to get a 6-2 win for the Brahmas. Dolan Gilbert picked up the win for the Brahmas stopping 40 of the 42 shots he faced.

Sunday Final:

TX Brahmas 3 @ TX RoadRunners 5: The Texas RoadRunners salvaged a win in the three-game weekend series with the Texas Brahmas thanks to a 5-3 win. The RoadRunners got on the score sheet early in the first period with Jaron Ketterman scoring his 11th goal of the year at 2:33. The Runners then added a second at 3:55 from Matthew Ederstrand to make the game 2-0. Just past the halfway mark of period one, Michael Imala scored his 19th of the year assisted by Tyler Hildebrandt and Jeremiah Snyder for a 2-1 score in favor of the RoadRunners. Minutes later, Tyler Love scored for the RoadRunners for a 3-1 score going into the fist intermission. The RoadRunners scored the lone goal in the second period with Jaron Ketterman for a 4-1 score. In the third period, The Brahmas added a goal from Erik Vrkoc making the score 4-2. Matthew Edestrand scored a minute later for the RoadRunners making it a 5-2 score. Elijah Roofe scored an unassisted goal for the Bahamas late for a final score of 5-3. Nash Wilson earned the win in the contest stopping 44 of the 47 he faced.

The Runners moved to 18-4-1-1 for 38 points and trail the Brahmas by eight points in the South division with three games in hand.  The El Paso Rhinos are solid in third with 32 points.  “All in all it wasn’t a bad weekend as we proved we can play with the top teams and come out on top.  Getting back a couple guys will be huge for us going down the stretch and I like our chances going through the second half.”  added Beavis

The Runners will be at home again this coming weekend as they host the Atlanta Capitals for a three game set in Bryan / College Station beginning at 6:15 PM Friday evening at the “Spirit Ice Arena”  Friday and Saturday games are at 6:15PM and Sunday puck drop is 2:15PM CST.  Be sure to catch all the action live or as always on hockeytv.com
