RoadRunners Hit the Road to Boston

Oct 4, 2019

The RoadRunners are looking to bounce back from last weekends sweep at the hands of the Mid Cities Stars.  The Stars took the three game series 3-2, 4-0 and 6-3 despite a strong showing on Friday and Sunday and a great short handed effort by Mid Cities on Saturday.

Mid Cities 3 @ TX Roadrunners 2 – It took a late second-period game-winner from Logan High, but the Stars just outlasted the Roadrunners for a 3-2 road win. Hunter Leonhard netted the other two goals for the victors, while Brenden Fehlig and Gabe Davis tallied for Texas. Noah Kensinger’s 44 saves earned the win, while Jaeger Reed’s 43 fell just short in the loss.

Mid Cities 4 @ TX Roadrunners 0 – Kim Kenton put on a show with a stellar 46 saves, shutting out the Roadrunners as his Stars teammates potted a quartet on Saturday. RJ Muckensturm paced the offense netting two short handed goals.  Hunter Leonhard and Gibson Duhe also tallying. Cole Garver put in a strong night of his own in the Texas net, with 61 saves on the night.

Mid Cities 6 @ TX Roadrunners 3 – A 3-1 Roadrunners lead late in the second period quickly evaporated, as the Stars rattled off five unanswered strikes in the final 25 to ultimately snag a 6-3 road win on Sunday. Brady Nelson and RJ Muckensturm paced the comeback with a pair of goals apiece, with Muckensturm particularly impressing with three helpers as well for five total points. Hunter Leonhard and Zach Perez joined them on the Stars’ scoresheet in front of Nahuel Veyan’s 38 saves, while Blake Forystek put in an impressive, 45-save shift in the Roadrunners’ crease.

The team will travel to Boston on Saturday afternoon to attend the NA3HL Eastern Showcase in Attleboro, MA.  This will be the first showcase in the east but not the first event for the NAHL / NA3HL as the Top Prospects Tournament and the NAHL Combine are already two huge events that take place in Attleboro  “The guys are up for this event for sure.  We spent the week preparing for the match-ups and we feel this is going to be the place we make a statement.” states RoadRunners coach Ryan Scheide.

The team will take on three eastern based teams over the three day event.  In game one the RoadRunners will match up against the Skylands Kings on Sunday at 4 PM EST.  Monday and Tuesday the team will face both the Long Beach Sharks and the New England Knights at 10:00 AM EST both days.

“For me, it’s not just about the event but also about going back home and seeing friends and family,  Although the number one priority for our team and myself is proving to everyone that the RoadRunners are for real.  Accomplishing that back home would be that much nicer for certain.” added Head Coach Mike Beavis.

Beavis is a Western, MA. native that has a great relationship with several of the programs and colleges throughout the northeast and he is looking to show people that his team this season will be no different then the teams he assembled in years past.

Joining the RoadRunners this week from the Odessa Jackalopes of the NAHL is Defenseman Logan Bellar.  Bellar will be a huge addition for the team as he is a very high skilled player with a huge upside and plenty of experience at higher levels of play.  “We were sent Logan from Odessa’s Todd Watson earlier this week as Todd needed him to get more ice time and be put in a go to guy role for a bit.  Our job is to help Logan get back up with Odessa as soon as possible and in the mean time see if we can’t get him some great exposure with some NCAA schools that will be in attendance of the event.” added Beavis  Several NCAA programs as well as NAHL representation will be in town for the event and Beavis will look to showcase all of his guys to several of his college and NAHL connections.

All RoadRunners games will be broadcast live on hockeytv.com  So if you can’t make the trip to New England you will not miss the action live on Hockey TV.
