NA3HL Goaltender of the Month: Hunter Hein, Texas RoadRunners

RoadRunners goaltender Hunter Hein was lights out between the pipes in the month of October with a perfect 6-0 record. In his five showings in the month, Hein faced 199 shots and turned away 192 of them to record a 1.17 GAA and a .965 SV%. The Phoenix, AZ native also recorded 2 shutouts during the month.

“Hunter has been playing well early on this season and is a huge part of our team.  I thought he might have stuck with Odessa (NAHL) this year but Head Coach Scott Deur felt he needed a bit more time in the 3HL.” stated Runners Coach Mike Beavis

Hein, the 2003 goaltender from Phoenix, AZ.  has been close to perfect on the season with the Runners and the 6’4″ 190 lb is focused on one game at a time.  Hein, who was recruited last season by Babson College NCAA D-3 decided  to hold off on the offer with hopes of making the jump this season to the NAHL. When asked about his current situation Hein replied.  “I am here to help my team and if the opportunity to jump to the NAHL arises I would be ecstatic.  But in the meantime I am leaning more to looking at my educational future and what schools may be interested that will fit my educational and hockey needs.”

Hein should be creating quite a stir during the college recruiting season and along with his impressive performance to date is hoping to get some serious interest at the NCAA level in the immediate future.  But he also won’t rule out playing his last year of juniors should the right opportunity arise.

Hein and his teammates will be off the next two weekends on the game schedule but are staying busy on the ice preparing for their next games VS the Louisiana Drillers that come to town for a three game set November 18th – 20th.  This weekend the Runners are staying active in the community with a few events, including Saturday’s  placing of flags to honor our veterans at “Veteran’s Park” in College Station and later in the day the team will be helping out with “Try Hockey for free Day” at the Spirit Ice Arena.

Next weekend Coach Beavis and his staff will be traveling to Dallas for the NAPHL Show and T1ER West Showcase looking to seek out talent for the parent club (Odessa Jackalopes) and the RoadRunners for next season.
