The Texas Roadrunners continued their winning ways this past weekend as they hosted the Pelham Prowlers in a three game set at “Spirit Ice Arena” in College Station, TX. The Roadrunners once again swept the competition and on Friday evening earned Coach Beavis his 400th career junior hockey win.
Friday Final
Pelham 2 @ Texas R 8 – The Texas RoadRunners rolled to an emphatic 8–2 victory over the Pelham Prowlers, powered by another monster outing from Wyatt Mineheine and Lucas Dyer, who combined for seven points in a 53-shot offensive barrage. Mineheine notched a four-point night, while Dyer scored twice—including the power-play game-winner late in the first—to lead the RoadRunners to their fifth straight home win. Texas seized control early despite an opening goal from Pelham’s Marlon Derksen, who scored his 20th of the year midway through the first. The RoadRunners quickly answered with a short-handed goal from Mineheine and another from Vincent Campbell, then added a late power-play strike from Dyer with 14 seconds left to take a 3–1 lead into the break. The second period saw the RoadRunners continue to pour it on, adding three more tallies—highlighted by Mineheine’s second of the game and power-play goals from Joseph Izzo and William Heskett. Derksen briefly provided a spark for Pelham with his second of the night, but the Prowlers never threatened as Texas maintained relentless offensive pressure. Dyer and Mineheine each struck again in the third to seal the rout, with Izzo and Heskett adding assists as the RoadRunners’ top unit continued to dominate both at even strength and on special teams. Calum Hartner turned aside 23 shots for the win, while Pelham’s Garrett Ambrose faced a heavy workload, stopping 45 in the loss. Texas finished 3-for-6 on the power play and added two short-handed goals in a complete team effort. With balanced scoring, airtight puck movement, and a relentless forecheck, the RoadRunners overwhelmed Pelham from start to finish. The victory for the Roadrunners and Head Coach Mike Beavis was number four hundred for the GM and Head Coach Mike Beavis.
Saturday Final:
Pelham 2 @ Texas R 5 – The Texas RoadRunners controlled play from start to finish and rode a dominant 64-shot effort to a 5–2 home victory over the Pelham Prowlers. A balanced attack led by Wyatt Mineheine and Lucas Dyer powered the RoadRunners to their fifth straight win, while goaltender Brenden Patterson backstopped the victory with 26 saves and even picked up an assist. The first period was a whirlwind, featuring four goals and plenty of special-teams action. Joseph Izzo opened the scoring on the power play midway through the frame, burying his 12th of the year to give Texas an early edge. Pelham answered just minutes later when Matthew Hunter converted on the man advantage to even things at one apiece. Dyer quickly restored the RoadRunners’ lead with an unassisted strike, but Hunter Yurcik tied it again in the final second of the period, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to make it 2–2 after 20 minutes. The second period saw Texas tilt the ice heavily in their favor, outshooting Pelham 27–6 and taking the lead for good when Mineheine scored his 43rd of the season off a feed from Dyer at 6:46. Despite several penalties slowing the flow, the RoadRunners maintained full control and carried a 3–2 lead into the third. Texas sealed the win in the final frame with two more tallies. Jayden Hitt extended the lead early in the period, finishing off a sharp passing play from Mineheine and Alex McMillan, before Mineheine struck again on the power play for his second of the night and 44th of the year. Mineheine led the way with two goals and an assist, Dyer added a goal and two helpers, and Izzo contributed a goal and 10 minutes in the box in a gritty performance. Patterson stood tall when needed, while Pelham netminder Oscar Gribauval faced a barrage of 64 shots and kept the score respectable with several key saves. The RoadRunners’ depth and discipline once again proved the difference as they powered to another convincing home win.
Sunday Final
Pelham 1 @ Texas R 10 – The Texas RoadRunners exploded offensively in a dominant 10–1 road victory over the Pelham Prowlers, showcasing depth scoring, relentless pressure, and a suffocating forecheck that overwhelmed the hosts from start to finish. Texas set the tone early, striking twice in the opening frame to seize control. Lucas Dyer opened the scoring at 19:07, ripping home his 33rd of the year off a setup from Joseph Izzo, before Ronin Draffan doubled the lead just seconds later, burying his third of the season from Vincent Campbell to make it 2–0 after one. The RoadRunners broke the game wide open in the second period with a five-goal onslaught. Dyer’s second of the night — a shorthanded tally at 3:14 — ignited the surge, followed by Alex McMillan’s unassisted effort at 4:50. Alex Matysiak extended the margin with his second of the season at 13:54, assisted by Cayson Ash-Hendricks, before Jayden Hitt made it 5–0 with an unassisted strike less than a minute later. Kristopher Pope capped off the period at 15:33, finishing a three-way passing play from Draffan and Hitt for a commanding 7–0 lead heading into the third. Texas kept their foot on the gas in the final frame, adding three more to reach double digits. Wyatt Mineheine made it 8–0 just 44 seconds into the period, followed by a highlight-reel short-handed marker from Izzo at 13:18. Pope added his second of the contest at 5:10 to round out the visitors’ scoring. Pelham broke the shutout late when Parker McCown converted from Benjamen Salter at 4:56, but it was far too little, too late. Goaltender Colby Lee backstopped the RoadRunners to victory with 26 saves on 27 shots, while Collin Jeffries faced a barrage at the other end, turning aside 55 of 65 in a valiant effort. Texas dominated the shot clock 65–27, including a staggering 26–12 margin in the middle frame. Dyer (2G, 1A) and Pope (2G) led a balanced attack that saw nine different skaters record points. Draffan chipped in a goal and two assists, and Izzo factored in with a goal and a helper as well. Special teams were decisive, with Texas netting two shorthanded goals while stifling Pelham’s power play throughout. The RoadRunners’ complete performance — combining speed, structure, and scoring depth — secured their most emphatic win of the season and sent a strong message to the rest of the division.
The Roadrunners will host the Bayou State Rougarou next weekend in College Station and hope to increase their lead in the NA3HL where they currently sit in the top spot with a 18-1-0-0 record with 36 points still four points up on the former Fraser cup Champion Louisiana drillers. “We have a lot of work to do and can’t become complacent. We have a very tough schedule before the holiday break with six games against the Drillers and three games at the NA3HL showcase in mid December. We will be tested for sure in those games. Hopefully we fair well and prove to the league that we may just fit into the “Tuesday Top Ten” Stated Roadrunners Head Coach Mike Beavis.
