Feb 19, 2024

The Texas Roadrunners grabbed some valuable points this past weekend from the South division’s top team the New Mexico Ice Wolves.  The two teams battled in a playoff like atmosphere in College Station Texas over three games.  With the two wins over the weekend the Runners climbed back into third place with six games to go in the regular season.  The team is now only 3 points behind the 2nd place El Paso Rhinos who will come to town next weekend in a decisive three game set in the battle for second place.  New Mexico sits on top of the South with 66 points followed by El Paso with 58 points then the Roadrunners with 55 and in fourth place the Texas Brahmas also with 55 points.  The only team to clinch a playoff birth in the south is the Ice Wolves.  The Louisiana Drillers in 5th place still have the chance to eliminate someone to clinch the 4th and final spot.

“I think the guys responded well this weekend in a series that was playoff like for sure.  We let one get away on Friday with a minute to go in regulation but bounced back on Saturday with a solid team effort and some outstanding goaltending by Jimmy Packee.  Sunday was a tight game and came down to some final minute heroics from Kyle Mackintosh who was recently signed as a free agent. In OT it was a great individual effort by Noble Cook to seal the comeback win.  I think that we have a shot as long as our guys come to play a full sixty every game we could stick around for awhile.”  Stated Coach Beavis
