The Texas RoadRunners are back in action to start the second half of the 2024-2025 season. The team will host the New Mexico Ice Wolves this weekend at “Spirit Ice Arena” in College Station, TX. The Ice Wolves are currently in fourth place in the South Division with With a 18-4-2-1 record over 26 games While the fifth place Roadrunners are looking to close the gap for the final playoff spot with a record of 12-15-2-0 after 29 games. The Runners began the season with a relatively quick start but hit some costly road bumps along the way with key injuries in the first half along with some lackluster performances.
Recently the team has made a few roster moves to bolster up some gaps that needed to be corrected. The team added Defenseman Josh Giguere that was picked up in a trade with the Mason City Toros and Sam Morganti that was recently added from the NJ. Hitman of the USPHL. Giguere instantly fit with his new team scoring the game winner in game three of the Blaine Showcase just before the break. While Morganti was a player that Coach Beavis wanted on his roister from the start of the season when he had the opportunity to see him at Odessa’s regional camp earlier this past summer. Both players will for sure bolster the Roadrunners D corps.
“Josh has been a great addition to our program and has good skills and vision and will be a big part of us getting back into the chase for that final playoff spot. Sam is a big solid defenseman with above average skills. At 6’5” 190 he will be the size we needed on the back end. I am looking for big things from him for the second half for sure. Stated Coach Mike Beavis
The Roadrunners also made some other roster moves over the break including sending veteran Defenseman Zach Barlow to the Sheridan Hawks of the Frontier division. “Zach was a great team guy for us and worked very hard. Sheridan asked about him and with it being Zach’s last season We felt it would be better for everyone if he was able to obtain more playing time with a playoff bound program that was in need of a defenseman.” Added Beavis
Finally the biggest trade news for the Roadrunners was sending assistant captain Kyle Mackintosh to the New Mexico Ice Wolves for Forward Wyatt Mineheine. The two will face off this weekend vs their former teams which always makes for an interesting series of events. “It was tough moving a veteran guy especially a skilled guy like Mack and one of our leaders but we both talked about the potential benefits of the move and Kyle took his time and made the decision to accept the proposed trade. I am excited about Wyatt joining us as he is a high skilled and impressive player. He still has two more seasons of junior eligibility and at this point I feel we can get him to make the jump to the NAHL in the near future. He will be an exciting guy to watch and we are thrilled with him so far.” stated Beavis
The Runners begin the second half with a rather large mountain to climb as they have some serious ground to make up if they want to squeak into the post season. This all begins tonight, Friday January 10th @ 6:45 PM…. If you can’t make it down to Spirit Ice Arena please catch all the action live as always on NAHLTV
