On The Road with the RoadRunners

Jul 12, 2019

The staff of the RoadRunners was hard at work over the past week in attendance at the Great Western Futures Camp in Las Vegas, NV. The camp, in it’s 19th season hosted a wide range of players from 2000-2006 birth years. “Some really good young talent in the 03-06 birth years for sure that have definitely caught the eyes of some of the scouts in attendance.” stated Head Coach Mike Beavis. Beavis went on to say that there were 10-12 guys in the 2000-2002 birth-years that got his attention during the event. “I spoke with a few guy’s and gave them invites to the upcoming Odessa Jackalopes main camp in Chicago. I think a couple of them have a chance to possibly stick or could be players that may make the jump over the next season.”

Beavis also got to spend some time with a couple of current Roadrunners at the event. Jason Owings, a returner from last season and recently signed Goaltender Cole Garver from Middleton, WI. “Jason is a decent forward with good speed and is a giant ball of energy. I spent some time with him and his grandparents at the event and look forward to working on his development this season. Cole, is an exceptional young goaltender that could see time in the NAHL in the near future. I had the pleasure of getting to know Cole and his dad during the camp and know that Cole is very excited to get things going this season. Both will be in attendance at Odessa’s main camp in a couple weeks.

Coach Beavis also spent time with RoadRunners Captain Brenden Fehlig during the event. “I was told by coach Egan that Brenden was a great kid and when he made the effort to come out to visit for a couple hours I got to know a bit about him and instantly knew that he was my type of player. We spent some time talking about the upcoming season and what his role would be and I think we both are in agreement in what we need to do to find success.” states Beavis

Over the four day event the staff was pretty impressed with a few players that they will be working with over the upcoming days both at the Odessa camp and discussing the possibility of becoming members of the team for this season.
