Roadrunners Sweep in the Bayou and Send three to Top Prospects

The Texas Roadrunners swept the Bayou State Rougarou in the final two games between the two this past weekend.  The Roadrunners took all 11 games from the Rougarou this season and locked up second place in the Southeast division of the NA3HL

Texas R 5 @ Bayou State 4 (SO) – The Bayou State Rougarou hosted the Texas RoadRunners for their tenth game of the season. The RoadRunners have won all of their previous matchups against the Rougarou. In the first period, the Rougarou opened up the scoring with goals from forwards Denis Portnoy and Nathan Daniels at 16:31 and 00:15, respectively. In the second period, the RoadRunners began their comeback with a goal form defenseman Brady Warrington at 18:05. The Rougarou were then able to capitalize on its powerplay and forward Ethan Tierman scored the third of the game for Bayou State at 4:48. Texas was able to tie up the game with a pair of goals from forwards William Heskett and Kristopher Pope at 3:28 and 1:48. However, Bayou State’s Portnoy scored his second of the game with 13 seconds left in the period to give the Rougarou a one-goal lead heading into the third period. During the third, Pope scored his second of the game for the RoadRunners and the only goal of the period to send the game to overtime. Neither team was able to score in overtime, and the game headed into a shootout where Pope scored a goal in the third round to give Texas the win. Brenden Patterson started in net for the RoadRunners and made 22 saves on 26 shots. 

Texas R 6 @ Bayou State 3 – The Bayou State Rougarou hosted the Texas RoadRunners for their 11th game of the season and second of the weekend. The RoadRunners won Friday’s game in a shootout. The RoadRunners had a strong start on Saturday, with forwards Logan Diskey and Kristopher Pope scoring at 18:57 and 17:19, respectively. The Rougarou got on the board first in the second period with a goal from forward Denis Portnoy on the power play at 18:36. Texas proceeded to score three more times in the second from forwards Anthony Riviello at 17:44, Joseph Izzo on the power play at 10:50 and Jayden Hitt with an unassisted goal at 1:24. The Rougarou scored again with a goal from forward Judah Temple at 1:06 to end the period 5-2. In the third, forward William Heskett scored on the power play at 9:10 for Texas. Portnoy scored his second of the game with an unassisted goal for Bayou State and Texas won with a final score of 6-3. 

The Runners sent three players to the NA3HL Top Prospects tournament this week.  Captains, Joey Izzo and Hank Garrett as well as William Dyker were selected for the prestigious event that took place along with the NAHL TPT at the USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, MI.  

The Roadrunners will have the next two weekends off before hosting the Louisiana Drillers in the final regular season games at “Spirit Ice Arena” in College Station, TX.  The two teams will finish up the regular season before moving onto the first round of the Fraser Cup playoffs.  Both the Drillers and the Roadrunners will host the first round games.  The defending Fraser cup Champs have secured 1st place in the Southeast and will host the number four seed while the second place Roadrunners will host the third seed.  Playoffs will begin on Friday March 13th at 7:15 PM at Spirit Ice.
