2022-2023 Training Camp Day #1

Sep 5, 2022

The Texas RoadRunners opened up their 2022-2023 Training camp today and things are looking pretty decent for this years squad.  The Runners returners feel they have unfinished business to attend to and the newcomers are eager to help them tend to it.  The 26 man team started the day at D-1 fitness for their first team workout before jumping onto the ice for the first time as a unit.  “All in all I was happy with day one.  The schedule was a bit flip flopped with the guys going to the gym before the first skate and that lead to a few sets of tired legs.  That along with us literally destroying the ice right off the get go made it a somewhat slower first practice then I had hoped for.” states Runners Coach Mike Beavis.

Beavis was impressed with much of the talent but really wont make any decisions on guys and where they will fit until after camp is over and he has a chance to assess his players.  Coach Beavis also stated that he is awaiting the rest of his coaching staff, assistant coaches Brendan O’Reilly who will be in town this Wednesday and Eric Masters who is scheduled to join the team late next week.  “It will be nice to have some extra sets of eyes out here as well as some valued opinions on our guys before setting our line up for opening weekend.” Beavis added.

The RoadRunners will be back at it tomorrow when they begin two-a days for the remainder of the week.  Beavis also stated that he is feeling pretty good about his leadership early on and they are starting off the season on the right foot by leading by example and getting the guys focus on the task at hand.

We will continue to bring you updated news from the RoadRunners training camp as well as introducing you to our incoming Captains for this season.  We will also be featuring some introductions to this years sponsors and staff.  Stay tuned over the next several days leading up to “Opening Night”  September 16th at 7:30PM when the Runners host the Austin Ice Bats to kick off the regular season.
