Established in 1998 in Orange County California, the Interscholastic Hockey Federation (IHF) is an all volunteer organization and the governing body for all high school roller hockey in and around the Orange County area. From its humble beginnings with a handful of teams from the immediate communities around the roller hockey facilities in the Irvine, Huntington Beach, and Costa Mesa, the IHF has grown to now overseeing fifty-five teams in four different skill divisions, representing thirty area high schools. These high schools cover four Southern California counties and comprise both public and private schools. The IHF proudly serves over 700 student athletes who are currently participating in the 2007-2008 IHF League Season.
The IHF Roller Hockey Season typically runs from October through April and consists of three pre-season games, fifteen regular season games and a playoff tournament in all four skill divisions; Varsity, Junior Varsity A, B and C. The IHF will feature it's first annual IHF All-Star post-season event in 2008. Many IHF teams also participate in local regional and national level tournament competition. IHF high school teams have proudly garnered consecutive AAU High School National Varsity team titles (Santiago HS in 2007 and Marina HS in 2006).
IHF High School Roller Hockey games are presently held at three primary roller hockey facilities in and around Orange County including: The 949 Roller Hockey Center ( www.949rollerhockey.com/) located in Irvine, CA; the Anaheim Hockey Club ( www.anaheimhockeyclub.com) recently relocated to Corona, CA; and the Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center ( www.c2chockey.com/) located in Huntington Beach, CA.
The IHF also pursues the expansion of the League into additional high schools in the surrounding communities so that as many high schools that want to field at least one or more teams can do so in an organized and properly supervised environment. The IHF is dedicated to the promotion and continuation of the sport of roller hockey and to give all of those high school student athletes that wish to participate an opportunity to do so.
It is the ultimate goal of the IHF to perpetuate the sport of interscholastic roller hockey. The IHF works closely with facility operators and organizations such as the Western Collegiate Roller Hockey League (WCRHL www.wcrhl.com) in promoting quality educational choices and a continuation of the sport for our high school athletes, as well as generate the continued interest in roller hockey participation and league play into the middle schools and even the elementary schools of the Southland.
